Subject: Announcement for "Scope of automobiles and categories of automobile required to execute an insurance contract under the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance".
Foundation: Paragraph 3 of Article 5 and Article 6 in the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance Act
Content:
1. The scope of automobiles shall cover the following:
(1) The automobile as provided in subparagraph 8, Article 2 of the Highway Act.
(2) The motorized machinery driven on highway: The machinery, without relying on transportation of other vehicles, could move with self-provided power and transmission system, wheels or caterpillars.
(3) Other motorized vehicles: The vehicle is equipped with the function of transportation, not on rails, but not including the ones as follows:
a. Wheelchairs with power, electrically mobilized vehicles for medical purpose, provided in the Rule of Medical Equipment Management by the Department of Health, Executive Yuan.
b. Bicycles with supplementary electrical power qualified by the examination stipulated in the Highway Traffic Safety Rules.
c. Other vehicles with highest speed below 30 kilometers per hour and the weight below 30 kilograms (not including persons or other goods except for battery )
2. Automobiles required to execute an insurance contract under the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance are as follows：
(1) The automobile as provided in subparagraph 8, Article 2 of the Highway Act, not including the military vehicles during period of the war provided in Article 2 of the Administration and Punishment Rule for the Military Automobiles owned by Military Forces.
(2) Motorized machinery with a temporary pass issued by the highway supervisory authority, subject to Article 83 of the Highway Traffic Safety Rules.
(3) Automobiles still in use with license plates been abandoned, returned, reserved, or surrendered due to cancellation, revocation or suspension.
3. "Scope of automobiles and categories of automobile required to execute an insurance contract under the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance" is implemented from the effective date of the amendment and promulgation of this Act.
